We have a practice trained towards assisting LGBTQIA+ youth, adults and their families. Our approach is supporting the coming-out process in order to help create a positive environment to thrive and maintain good physical and mental health.
In order to thrive personally and in the community, LGBTQIA+ individuals need to feel socially, emotionally, and physically safe and supported. A positive school climate has been associated with decreased depression, suicidal feelings, substance use, and unexcused absences among LGBTQIA+ students. LGBTQIA+ adults also face a myriad of issues similar to youth including violence, homelessness, family rejection and lack of access to gender affirming healthcare and mental health services.
At New Life Center NY, we wish to bridge those gaps and create a dialogue with clients, their families, their schools and in the community to improve the areas of concern. We are dedicated to break the barriers that are created by misinformation, hatred and intolerance of the LGBTQIA+ population. Our aim is to eradicate the stigma associated with LGBTQIA+ issues using effective evidence-based models. We are also part of a network of gender affirming practitioners.
Together, our Social Workers will work with you as a team, we will help create additional alliances already existing in our diverse community and help remove the obstacles that are holding you back from being who want to be - the VERY BEST YOU possible!
